Biggleswade Train Station, located on the Great Northern Route required a Platform Extension for increased capacity to accommodate larger trains of up to 12 carriages. SpanWright UK worked with Barhale Construction for this platform extension project. The platform deck extension included island and single faced platforms integrating with the existing track layout. Previously 168m in length, the platforms were extended at both ends to a total of 245m.

Spanwright’s Production Team constructed a total of 152 bespoke ultra-high strength beams of 73 different varieties in just 6 weeks. Cross beams were used to support the 270 reinforced hollowcore Spanwright units and also the finishing edge beams where a high quality finish was of paramount importance.
Throughout the project Spanwright’s highly skilled Formwork and Batching Teams demonstrated their capability to execute complex shapes and details at first attempt. This ensured Barhale Construction complete the construction project on time, resulting in minimal delay and inconvenience to the train using public.
